Senate Confirms IRS Commissioner

He had been the acting commissioner.

The Senate confirmed Danny Werfel on Thursday as the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service.

During his hearing in February, Werfel said, “If I am fortunate enough to be confirmed, the audit and compliance priorities will be focused on enhancing IRS’ capabilities to ensure that America’s highest earners comply with tax laws.”

Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon said, “For Mr. Werfel to get bipartisan support to lead the IRS… is a testament to his fairness, his ability to work with both sides, and his undeniable qualification for this role.”

Among other things, Werfel will be implementing changes and additions arising from the $80 billion expansion that was part of the Inflation Reduction Act passed by Congress.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Commissioner Werfel to seek God’s guidance as he assumes his new role in the IRS.
  • For Secretary Janet Yellen as she oversees the agencies of the Treasury Department.
  • For IRS officials as they work to process the backlog of tax returns.
