Defense Secretary Says  Military to Remain in Iraq

He had an unannounced meeting with the Iraqi prime minister.

Two days before the 20th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin interrupted his Middle East trip to make an unannounced visit to that country.

After a meeting with Iraq’s prime minister, Secretary Austin said American forces would remain in that country “at the invitation of the government of Iraq.”

“The United States will continue to strengthen and broaden our partnership in support of Iraqi security, stability, and sovereignty,” he said.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For safety for Secretary Austin as he visits countries in the Middle East.
  • For the defense secretary to look to the Lord for wisdom as he heads the U.S. military.
  • For U.S. Armed Forces personnel stationed in Iraq and other high-risk nations.
