A Nation’s Wealth

Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all.  1 Chronicles 29:12

One of the inspiring things in the Old Testament is King David’s unashamed worship of God! Ezra, who is thought to be “The Chronicler,” penned a review of Israel’s past including David’s last acts. While David desired to build God a temple, the task was given by God to his son. In preparation, David spent his last season of life collecting resources and leading the citizens to bring offerings for the temple’s construction.

The people gave in great abundance and the day came for dedicating the gifts and anointing his son for the work. David steps up to address the assembly and rather than recite a long list of people to thank, he focuses upward. Amazingly, history has preserved his very words for you!

“Blessed are you O LORD, the God of Israel our father… Yours, O LORD is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all… and now we thank you our God and praise your glorious name… who am I, and what is my people that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given to you” (1 Chronicles 29:11-14).

Today, pray for those in charge of the storehouse of America’s riches to realize, as David did, a nation’s wealth is a gift from God. Ask that the decision-makers will use the resources wisely and have grateful hearts for His provision.

Today’s Verse: 1 Chronicles 29:12

Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all.
