Giving and Getting

For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.   Hosea 6:6

People of faith, as they face adversity, often cling to the words of the prophet Jeremiah when he eloquently addressed an afflicted people in a crumbling nation: “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23).

God’s steadfast love is the anchor of faith for all who call upon Him. However, flipping the script as you seek to discover what God is looking for in you, have you ever considered He gives what He would like to receive? Giving to get something in return is a decidedly human trait and not in the holy character of God. However, in essence, He trains His children to be like Himself, and it brings God pleasure to find His qualities in you!

Perhaps you have wondered if steadfast love is something you can give to God and others. Yes, you can! When you invite the Holy Spirit to take residence in your heart, He brings strong love and faithfulness, plus all His beautiful attributes, making them available in and throughout your life. The Bible describes the end times as being full of false followers whose love is cold because it is not sustained by God’s Spirit. You honor God and bring great blessing to those in your life when you are full of His Spirit.

Pray for God’s people in America to be recognized by their steadfast love. Ask that those governing the nation will see that example, setting aside false philosophies to seek God in their hearts and discover His gifts.

Today’s Verse: Hosea 6:6

For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice,
the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
