C.S. Lewis has been credited with saying, “Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.” As those around you may cross the line in their actions and words, doing the right thing might not be noticed… or may even be reviled.
The apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesians that their new life in Christ involves an intentional walk with God, which is exhibited by the way they handle their relationships with others… wives and husbands, children with parents, and parents with their children. Children are told to be obedient to their parents, and God will bless them for it. He reminds fathers, and parents in general, to discipline their children in tenderness and love, not abusing the authority God has given them, but dealing with them in wisdom.
Slaves and masters are each given similar instructions on how to discharge their duties… in obedience to God. Those who work for another should follow the direction of the one in authority (unless it goes against God’s commands), and serve as if they were serving Christ directly. Their work should be from the heart out of a desire to please the Lord and not humans only. In turn, the boss should treat those under his authority with sincerity, recognizing God is over both the employer and employee, and without favoritism.
Nothing you do is hidden from the Lord. As an employee or employer, or in any other relationship, you are a servant of Christ. Seek to do the will of God in all that you do, pleasing Him first. Then pray for those in leadership in this nation that they would turn from any evil way, seeking to serve God rather than man.
