January 10th – Tuesday

He who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him. – John 8:29

82 years ago today, President Franklin Roosevelt introduced the lend-lease program to Congress. At that time, the British were engaged in an air battle with Germany, and a German invasion of Great Britain seemed imminent. Congress accepted President Roosevelt’s plan to lend military assistance to allied countries which was to be repaid when the war was over. The plan allowed the U.S. to help Great Britain while shoring up its own defenses against the growing Japanese threat in the Pacific. After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, the U.S. supplied the Soviet Union with military aid under the lend-lease act, putting the U.S. in a better position to fight battles on two fronts. With tensions rising worldwide today, pray for the president as he sees to the country’s diplomacy and military strategies.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For the president and secretary of state as they enter into alliances and agreements with other nations.
  • For members of Congress as they consider the authorization of military assistance to international partners.
