FDA Allows Retail Sale of Abortion Pills

Pharmacies are now allowed to apply for certification for dispense.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has fully approved abortion pill access through retail pharmacies for the first time in the United States. On Tuesday, the agency stated, “Under the Mifepristone REMS Program, as modified, Mifeprex and its approved generic can be dispensed by certified pharmacies or by or under the supervision of a certified prescriber.” Pharmacies may start applying to distribute the abortion pill mifepristone through the FDA.

The agency issued a caution with the approval, saying, “The FDA does not recommend purchasing mifepristone outside of the Mifepristone REMS Program – e.g. buying it online or personally transporting it from a foreign country. If a person does so, they would be bypassing important safeguards specifically designed to protect their health. Prescription medicines that are approved for use in the United States have been reviewed for safety, effectiveness, and quality by the FDA, and are subject to FDA-regulated manufacturing controls, including inspection of manufacturing facilities.“

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For FDA Commissioner Robert Califf to seek God’s direction as he oversees the agency.
  • For researchers and scientists with the FDA as they conduct studies and evaluate data.
  • For pharmacists and health care providers to have their hearts touched by the Lord regarding the value of human life.
