U.S. Capitol Complex to Reopen This Week

It has been closed since March 2020.

The public will be allowed access to the U.S. Capitol for the first time in almost three years beginning January 3. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi closed the building complex in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

House leader Kevin McCarthy of California stated that the new House majority would “fully reopen and restore the U.S. Capitol to the American people.”

In a letter to executive branch officials, Representative McCarthy said, “It has been two years, seven months, and 29 days since the People’s House closed. That means for 973 days, the American People have been restricted from their constitutional right to petition the first branch of government.”

Referring to the length of time that members of the public have been unable to meet with their representatives or view government proceedings in person, he added, “That posture is no longer acceptable.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Congressman McCarthy as he fills his role as a leader in the House of Representatives.
  • For Representative Pelosi as she prepares to transition out of her position as Speaker of the House.
  • For the incoming members of the 118th Congress to seek God’s wisdom as they are sworn in this week.
