Pentagon Announces $1.85 Billion Additional Aid to Ukraine

Patriot air defense systems will be included in assistance.

The Department of Defense has authorized the 28th presidential drawdown of security assistance for Ukraine. This new round of weapons is worth $1 billion and combines with $850 million in additional assistance through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative to provide the country with $1.85 billion in weapons for the conflict with Russia this winter. A notable part of this contribution is the inclusion of a Patriot air defense system, giving Ukraine the ability to accept incoming missiles and aircraft at long ranges.

“It’s important to put the Patriot battery in context. For air defense, there is no silver bullet,” a spokesperson for the Defense Department said. “Our goal is to help Ukraine strengthen a layered integrated approach to air defense. … Patriot will complement a range of medium and short-range air defense capabilities that we have provided and the allies have provided in prior donation packages.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For U.S. military officials to be prudent as they authorize sending American military equipment to Ukraine.
  • For members of Congress as they approve continued aid to Ukraine in the conflict with Russia.
