Defense Secretary Welcomes Egyptian President El-Sisi

Pentagon meeting marks 100 years of cooperation between U.S. and Egypt.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin III welcomed Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to the Pentagon for a meeting between leaders from both countries.

“The administration greatly appreciates Egypt’s leadership and cooperation and achieving our shared security objectives,” Secretary Austin said to open the meeting. “We’ve seen that leadership and Egypt’s courage in becoming the first Arab state to establish diplomatic relations with Israel, for your [responsibility and stewardship] of the Suez Canal, and to the vital assistance that Egypt provided and securing the ceasefire in Israel and Gaza.”

The meeting touched on a number of topics, including Egypt’s leadership of the Combined Task Force 153, which provides security of communication lines in the Red Sea, the joint defense of Egypt, and the impact Russia’s attack on Ukraine is having on the rest of the world.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Austin to seek God’s direction as he heads efforts to strengthen relationships with U.S. allies.
  • For Pentagon officials to provide wise and accurate recommendations to the president.
  • For the president as commander in chief of the nation’s armed forces.
