Bipartisan Negotiations Continue on Government Funding

Agreements are being made on omnibus legislation.

Congressional negotiators came to some significant agreements this week with regard to the annual government funding bill. Key negotiators Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont, Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama, and Representative Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut each issued statements, sharing that 2023’s proposed $1.5 trillion spending package was moving forward at an accelerated rate.

“If all goes well, we should be able to finish an omnibus appropriations package by Dec. 23,” Senator Shelby stated. Since the deadline to pass a full spending bill is this Friday, the House is currently crafting a stopgap spending bill to avoid a government shutdown.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of Congress as they discuss what to include in the government funding legislation.
  • For wisdom for the leaders in both chambers as they negotiate the omnibus bill.
  • For senators and representatives to be discerning regarding the economic impact of the federal budget they intend to pass.
