Chief Justice Issues Temporary Block of House Request

Congressional committee cannot access President Trump’s tax records while a review occurs.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts temporarily blocked the House Ways and Means Committee from accessing the tax returns of former President Trump this week. Lower courts have consistently upheld the committee’s request to view the former president’s tax records, while President Trump has repeatedly filed emergency requests all the way up the judicial chain to the Supreme Court.

Allowing the lower court’s decisions to stand would “undermine the separation of powers and render the office of the Presidency vulnerable to invasive information demands from political opponents in the legislative branch,” President Trump’s attorneys wrote. Chief Justice Roberts’ temporary block gives the Supreme Court time to review the emergency request, which was filed on Monday. The block will be lifted once the Supreme Court reaches a conclusion on the matter.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Chief Justice Roberts to be discerning as he oversees the court and its processes.
  • For wisdom for the justices as they consider the House committee’s request and determine the necessity of protecting the separation of powers.
  • For the Lord to accomplish His will through the decisions of the Court.
