The Way and Truth

Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth.   – Psalm 86:11

The psalmist’s prayer in today’s verse was to learn God’s ways so that he would walk in His truth. As you echo this prayer, know that God answered it through Christ. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). One reason Jesus came to Earth was to teach about the Father. To learn the Father’s way to live, follow Jesus.

Jesus taught the crowds only through parables (Matthew 13:34). He explained the reason to the disciples. He quoted the prophet Isaiah saying, “This people’s heart has grown dull” (Mathew 13:15). He stated, “This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand” (Matthew 13:13). He said to His disciples, “But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear” (Matthew 13:16). When they asked Him about the meaning of the sower and the seed, He said, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables?” (Mark 4:13). He then explained the meaning, describing the person who is good ground as the one who hears, understands, and produces fruit. This person is not sidetracked by the schemes of the adversary, nor by trouble, persecution, greed, or cares of the world.

Ask the Lord to enable you to be good soil: seeking and discovering truth in His Word, putting it into practice, and becoming productive. As you cultivate your relationship with the Lord, you will walk in God’s ways and truth. Pray that God will soften the hearts of the citizens and governing officials to hear and understand the gospel of Christ.

Today’s Verse: Psalm 86:11

Teach me your way, O Lord,
    that I may walk in your truth;

13 And he said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? 14 The sower sows the word. 15 And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in them. 16 And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. 17 And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away. 18 And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, 19 but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. 20 But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.”
