State Department Releases Statement on Ukrainian Nuclear Facility

G7 nations concerned by Russian control of Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.

The Department of State released a joint statement this week from the G7 Non-Proliferation Directors Group, which oversees efforts to reduce nuclear weapon creation and mitigate their existence. Russia has taken control of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine, which makes the Non-Proliferation Group “profoundly concerned” by the many possible threats this poses to Ukraine and the globe.

“As founders of the G7-led Global Partnership, we have worked together with Ukraine for more than 20 years to increase the safety and security of its nuclear facilities,” the G7 Directors Group said. “We reaffirm that the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant and the electricity that it produces rightly belong to Ukraine and stress that attempts by Russia to disconnect the plant from the Ukrainian power grid would be unacceptable.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For State Department officials as they stay in close contact with allies and partners in the region.
  • For wisdom for Secretary of State Blinken as he oversees diplomatic efforts surrounding the war in Ukraine.
  • For the safety of the Ukrainian people as they endure the war in their land.
