VERSE OF THE WEEK

Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith  Hebrews 12:2

A Fixed Gaze

Many people are familiar with the account of Jesus walking on the stormy waters of the Sea of Galilee (Matthew 14:22-33). It was in the pre-dawn hours, and Jesus had sent His disciples to a spot opposite where they had just fed over five thousand with five loaves and two fish. In the midst of the darkness, they spotted Jesus walking toward them on the water. Peter, ever impetuous, said, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water,” to which Jesus said, “Come.” (The Lord always says to come to Him!) And Peter was successful at doing just what Jesus was doing as long as he kept his eyes on the Savior. As soon as Peter became distracted by the storm and looked away, he began to sink below the water’s surface. He cried out for the Lord to save him and, of course, Jesus did. Keep your eyes on the Lord, regardless of the circumstances that tempt your focus to wander. Stay steady and fix your gaze, and He will see you through the fiercest storm.
