Presidents Biden and Xi Plan In-Person Meeting

Geopolitical relations remain tense.

A first in-person meeting between President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping is being planned to take place in November at the G-20 meeting in Indonesia.

This would be President Xi’s first foreign trip in years and comes as tensions between Washington and Beijing expand following increased Chinese aggression toward Taiwan.

Relations between the two superpowers have been strained for years, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, a trade war, and increased pressure from the West on Beijing to address human rights abuses.

National Security Council Indo-Pacific Coordinator Kurt Campbell did not confirm any details on the supposed meet-up but said, “I can confirm that the two leaders, when they spoke last discussed a possible face-to-face meeting during their recent call and agreed to have their teams follow up to sort out the specifics.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President Biden and his national security advisors as they prepare for the in-person meeting with President Xi.
  • For wisdom for the president and secretary of state as they discuss Indo-Pacific concerns with allies and partners.
  • For the Lord to work out His purposes in the relationship between the United States and China.
