Secretary Austin Visits with Latvian Leaders

Meets with Latvian President, Prime Minister, and Defense Minister

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin traveled to Latvia this week, where he met with Latvian President Egils Levits, Prime Minister Arturs Krisjanis Karins and Defense Minister Artis Pabriks on Thursday. Secretary Austin remarked on the long-standing partnership between the nations, celebrating 100 years of unbroken alliance between Latvia and the United States.

The leaders also discussed the war in Ukraine, a topic of importance as Latvia directly borders Russia to its West. “We’re completely united in providing support for Ukraine,” Latvian Prime Minister Karins said. “We must support, and continue to support, Ukraine in this fight against an aggressor that is completely unprovoked, completely unjustified, and … is extremely brutal.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Secretary Austin as he connects with U.S. allies and discusses common military concerns.
  • For U.S. and Latvian officials as they work to strengthen the defense partnership of the two countries.
  • For the president to seek God’s discernment as commander in chief.
