The things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. – 2 Corinthians 4:18

What is the most valuable thing you own—your house, a car, a rare antique, or a painting? It is hard to think of something you value ending up in a junkyard, but even rare antiques will eventually fade away. In fact, everything you see will have an end. Depressing? Not if you have faith in Jesus. He is the one and only eternal hope. The Scripture says that earthly things are a shadow of the things to come (Colossians 2:17).

In C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair, the heroes are trapped in the underground world of the witch. In an effort to keep the heroes of Narnia captive, the witch tries to convince them that their world and the sun are figments of their imagination. She says, “There is no sun.” With her magic, they almost fall for it, but then Puddleglum, in a flash of clarity, puts out the magic fire and says that if their world is make-believe, it “licks your real-world hollow.” So they escape the witch’s sad, dark world. This symbolizes the earthly experience. The Bible tells of a wonderful land without pain and death. And, frankly, the Heavenly realm licks this beautiful Earth hollow. In Christ is the promise of a marvelous, eternal land.

Though it is important to pray for the issues the country faces, the most important matters are the unseen ones. Pray for revival and that people will turn to Jesus and be ready for that day when they face eternity. Pray that those in positions of authority and citizens of this nation will learn to treasure the unseen and the eternal over worldly pleasures.

Today’s Verse: 2 Corinthians 4:18

as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

14 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
