Meeting Needs

God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.  – Philippians 4:19

Water is essential to your physical life, but what is essential to your spiritual one? Your body naturally craves water and food, and you do not have to think about it much, the need leads you to physical survival. But, because of the sinful nature of humankind, you do not naturally know what your spirit needs. Only God’s grace enlivens a heart to seek Him. And this is the most critical aspect of your spiritual life – seeking God. His great gift to you is the confidence to believe that those who seek Him will find Him!

Jesus’ miraculous feeding of the five thousand is described in all four gospels. In the recounting of events, you see His disciples encounter physical hunger in the people gathered to hear the Messiah teach. In taking stock of their resources, Philip discovers five loaves and two fish, which could not possibly feed such a multitude! Then Jesus gives a surprising direction, “give them something to eat” (Matthew 14:16). As if He didn’t understand it was impossible!

The disciples soon discovered a great truth. When they brought what they physically had to Jesus in faith, the spiritual world expands it! Five thousand people were fed because 12 men followed Jesus’ instructions for their impossible problem.

Seek God with your greatest needs and the needs of the nation, even the ones that seem impossible. Open your heart to knowing Him in new ways! Pray for leaders in the United States to thirst for a relationship with God, asking that decision-makers seek Him in their responsibilities.
