Letter of Recommendation

Our sufficiency is from God.  – 2 Corinthians 3:5

One of the most critical components to writing a good letter of recommendation is actually knowing the person you are recommending well enough to endorse them!  General positivity is an insufficient substitute for personal examples of character and accomplishment.

In an interesting turn of phrase, the apostle Paul calls you a letter of recommendation! “You show that you are a letter from Christ… written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts” (2 Corinthians 3:3). God knows you and is completely aware of your inconsistencies as well as the dubious character behind your freshly shaved and sweet-smelling self. Yet, you become a recommendation letter for Him as He transforms your heart and life!

Do you know God well enough to recommend Him to an unbelieving world? What a unique position you are in to demonstrate His glory. Your lack of righteousness is exactly what highlights His amazing grace! Your testimony of His work, forgiveness, and blessings in your life makes your recommendation real. When other people see you count on His grace rather than your own accomplishments to find confidence, then He is honored and faith is cultivated on Earth.

Pray for a renewal of honor to God’s name in this nation. Ask Him to move His followers in openly testifying of His goodness. Pray, as His name is proclaimed with confidence, that many will find a new and vibrant relationship with Him.

Today’s Verse: 2 Corinthians 3:5

Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God

My mouth will tell of your righteous acts,
of your deeds of salvation all the day,
for their number is past my knowledge.
16 With the mighty deeds of the Lord God I will come;
I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone.

17 O God, from my youth you have taught me,
and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds.
18 So even to old age and gray hairs,
O God, do not forsake me,
until I proclaim your might to another generation,
your power to all those to come.
19 Your righteousness, O God,
    reaches the high heavens.
You who have done great things,
O God, who is like you?
