God Holds the Future

Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.  – Proverbs 23:18

The phrase “keeping up with the Joneses” was used to explain why people moved into houses they were unable to afford or bought cars too expensive for their budget. They could not bear the thought that someone had better things than they had. Today the word is “equity” – disregarding an individual’s hard work and resources invested into making a business grow, there are some who advocate for all people to share in the profits equally.

An envious spirit is a real temptation, particularly if you see the ungodly having success or material goods in greater abundance than you can imagine. However, envy is like a disease that will eat away at you. The remedy: make it your goal to “continue in the fear of the Lord all the day” (Proverbs 23:17b). This fear is reverence for the Almighty and a recognition that He is Creator God. His plans are perfect. As His child, make it your priority to follow His Word being obedient to His direction. Stand firm in your trust that His way is the best.

No matter what you experience on this Earth, the Lord holds your future, both in this life and for eternity. Trust Him to guide you and provide for you in the best way; those who fear Him are in His special care.

Be reminded of this as you prioritize reading His Word. Be diligent in your prayers for guidance for yourself and your family, as well as for the leaders of this nation who can influence others for good. Find hope in the Lord; He holds the future.

Today’s Verse: Proverbs 23:18

    and your hope will not be cut off.

But I trust in you, O Lord;
    I say, “You are my God.”
15 My times are in your hand;
    rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from my persecutors!
16 Make your face shine on your servant;
    save me in your steadfast love!

Oh, how abundant is your goodness,
    which you have stored up for those who fear you
and worked for those who take refuge in you,
    in the sight of the children of mankind!
20 In the cover of your presence you hide them
    from the plots of men;
you store them in your shelter
    from the strife of tongues.

Love the Lord, all you his saints!
    The Lord preserves the faithful
    but abundantly repays the one who acts in pride.
24 Be strong, and let your heart take courage,
    all you who wait for the Lord!
