Department of Education Hosts First Mental Health Summit

Part of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act implementation.

The Department of Education hosted its first-ever virtual summit for supporting students with mental health disorders and disabilities this week. Schools and families around the country tuned in to the event, where the department highlighted the resources made available to them through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. A synergistic partnership between schools and families is key for students with disabilities to receive the access they need.

“Today’s summit is a testament to the strength and resilience of the disability community, a community that we know has faced unique challenges in the face of the pandemic,” said Education Secretary Miguel Cardona. “The Department stands ready to help educators, school and program staff, and families thoughtfully design learning experiences—and to ensure students with disabilities continue to have equal access to in-person instruction.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Cardona to seek the Lord’s guidance as he oversees efforts to address the needs of students with disabilities or disorders.
  • For American students who have mental health challenges in the wake of the pandemic.
  • For educators and parents who are attempting to improve the learning environment for children with disabilities.
