Secretary Austin Welcomes Thailand’s Prime Minister

Announces first trip to Thailand as defense secretary.

Thailand’s Prime Minister and Defense Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha paid a visit to the Pentagon on Friday, where Secretary Austin welcomed him. Thailand has been an ally of the United States for 189 years and is the U.S.’s oldest ally in the Indo-Pacific Region. Secretary Austin and Minister Chan-o-cha discussed future cooperation in upcoming defense demonstrations and announced the first visit to Thailand by the U.S. defense secretary in his current role later this month.

“Today, I’m looking forward to discussing our access and presence initiatives, further opportunities for joint training and other issues of common concern — including border security,” Secretary Austin said before their meeting. “And we’ll talk about new ways to strengthen our alliance for years to come.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for the president and secretary of state as they work to strengthen military alliances.
  • For discernment for Defense Secretary Austin as he interacts with defense ministers of other nations.
  • For the president and his military advisors as they determine strategies in the Indo-Pacific.
