Worth

 Fear not … you are of more value than many sparrows.  – Matthew 10:31

Have you heard about the man that bought a hundred-dollar pen because he got tired of losing his pen every day and knew if he spent a hundred dollars he would care about it enough to keep track of it? While not a theological analogy, there is a hint of both human nature and spiritual truth buried in that story!

At the creation of humans, God looked across time and in His perfect knowledge saw they would choose their own way over the companionship He offered them and that they would betray Him in every imaginable manner. In response, He built a redemption plan into creation, but it was an expensive concept, one that would cost Him dearly.

People seeking God soon recognize what He already knows; they are not good enough to exist with Him in His Holiness nor strong enough to endure His holy wrath upon their sin. The only logical solution and hope come through what God has done about their problem Himself. Saving Grace is encountered by people with the sober knowledge they cannot rescue themselves.

Only the lifeblood of His adored Son, Jesus Christ, was a sacrifice worthy to cancel the debt of sin humankind incurred. His value for you is beyond a religious experience, it is an eternal truth built into your life. Pray for those in your world that do not know their worth in God’s eyes. Ask God to enable American believers to carry the gospel of Jesus Christ into the neighborhoods and areas where His love is not known, bringing new hope to the hurting corners of the nation.

Today’s Verse: Matthew 10:31

Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
    whose hope is in the Lord his God,
6 who made heaven and earth,
    the sea, and all that is in them,
who keeps faith forever;
7     who executes justice for the oppressed,
    who gives food to the hungry.

The Lord sets the prisoners free;
8     the Lord opens the eyes of the blind.
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
    the Lord loves the righteous.
9 The Lord watches over the sojourners;
    he upholds the widow and the fatherless,
    but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.
