No Separation

 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.  – Romans 8:38-39

Shadows can sometimes be alarming because they can appear larger than the actual object. Your own shadow can be large or small but, either way, it cannot harm you. If you believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, death cannot harm you. The psalmist called it the “valley of the shadow of death” (Psalm 23:4). The body will eventually succumb to it, but death is powerless over the believer. It is all because of the love of God through Christ Jesus.

Can you comprehend that love? Love so great that when you believe in His Son, the Lord will never be apart from you. The connection you have with Christ is the great adhesive to God’s love. In Romans 8:35, the apostle Paul asks, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?”

While you may experience trials or hardship, and a sense of helplessness could tempt you to doubt, God never leaves you and His love will always be with you. Paul is an example of one whose faithfulness to God cost him a great deal. But, he kept looking upward with full assurance of the final triumph secured by Jesus.

Beloved, do not let your love for the Lord be shaken by circumstances; His love for you is eternal. Pray now for those in this nation, including the public officials, who struggle in various ways. May they come to know the God whose love can give them peace and strength to endure.

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,

“For your sake  we are being killed all the day long;
    we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
