U.S. and Australia Form Space Defense Partnership

They will defend against Russian and Chinese threats.

On Tuesday, Australian Defense Minister Peter Dutton made the announcement that the Australian Defense Department will be partnering with the U.S. for a Defense Space Command to counter threats. The Pentagon will assist with the formation of Australia’s Space Command, providing resources and information from the U.S. Space Force to help get the new military division started.

“Our partnership will also contribute to the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office’s pursuit of a more capable, integrated, and resilient space architecture to support global coverage in a wide range of intelligence mission requirements,” Minister Dutton stated. He said the goal is to “invest in new military space capabilities to counter threats.”
