Worthy

And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him.  – Matthew 2:11

Picture the scene, a toddler playing, with perhaps some crude wooden toys on the floor, and the wise men come in and worship him. Christmas plays depict three wise men coming to the manger, the same time as the shepherds. The Scripture only mentions three gifts; more than likely there was a whole band of wise men who made the journey from the East. Also, they came up to two years after Jesus’ birth, according to King Herod’s order to kill the boy babies in Bethlehem and the surrounding area (Matthew 2:16). Jesus is worthy to be worshiped as a baby in the manger, at the temple at 8 days old, and as a toddler at His home in Nazareth (Luke 2:39).

He is worthy to be worshiped as a twelve-year-old, who amazed the teachers in the temple. Worthy as He trained His disciples, healed the sick, and taught about the Kingdom of God. Worthy as the suffering Sacrifice, risen Lord, and glorified Savior. Worthy as the promised deliverer to return in the clouds. The Father put His stamp of approval on Him. “This is My Son in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17). “Your throne, O God, is forever” (Hebrews 1:8).

And Jesus made astounding claims about Himself, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). “Before Abraham was, I am” (John 8:58). Today, in prayer, worship the Savior, asking Him to heal this nation of its diseases, deception, and distress. He is worthy to be worshiped.

Today’s Verse:  Matthew 2:11

And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.”

26 Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
