Jill Biden Speaks at State Department Function

Comments on Ukraine at annual women’s award ceremony.

First Lady Jill Biden spoke at the 16th International Women in Courage Award ceremony on Monday, commending the bravery of women in the face of injustice and tyranny. The virtual ceremony, held by the Department of State, recognized 12 women for their “exceptional courage”. Both the first lady and Secretary Antony Blinken also honored the millions of women being affected by Russia’s attack on Ukraine during the ceremony.

“Women have been told that they are dangerous,” the first lady said in her remarks. “And that’s because they are — dangerous to corruption and injustice. When we raise our voices, we have the power to shatter the shields of oppression.” She added, ”There can be no true democracy, no true peace, no true prosperity, without women’s voices.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the first lady as she advocates for women and the issues they face.
  • For Secretary Blinken as he supports the recognition of courageous women.
