CDC Reports Drop in Birth Rates

Stresses of 2020 had repercussions on early 2021.

The CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) released a report documenting a drop in birth rates during the first six months of 2021. A 9% decrease was seen in January of 2021, which corresponded with lockdown measures that had been initially implemented 9 months earlier. There was a less drastic drop in February 2021, reflecting the generally declining birth rate charted from 2015-2020.

“This difference between patterns seen for the first 6 months of 2021 and earlier years suggests that the magnitude of the downward trend seen in the second half of 2020 and January of 2021 may have begun to wane and declines in the number of births may be returning to pre-pandemic levels,” noted the NCHS report.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Director Wallensky to seek God’s leading as she oversees the various agencies within the CDC.
  • For officials in the National Center for Health Statistics as they analyze and report their findings.
  • For wisdom for Secretary Becerra as he heads the federal health department.
