Secretary McDonough Outlines Veteran Homelessness Strategy

Highlights action steps at L.A. Point-in-Time Count.

Secretary of Veterans Affairs Denis McDonough participated in the Point-in-Time Count for the Greater Los Angeles community last month, where he announced new goals his department was implementing to help the homeless veteran community. The goal of the VA is to put at least 1,500 homeless veterans into permanent housing by the end of the year. The Department of Housing and Urban Development is partnering with the VA to promote greater access to Housing vouchers.

“Due to significant investments from Congress in the last three years, we have substantial resources to invest in homeless prevention,” Secretary McDonough said. “We also have proven strategies that have not only decreased the number of homeless Veterans, but also prevented Veterans and their families from experiencing homelessness in the first place. What remains is the energy and effort needed to finish the job. These initiatives will help us get there.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Secretary McDonough as he implements strategies for homeless veterans.
  • For the HUD secretary as her department supports housing efforts for veterans.
  • For the president and his advisors as they consider the needs of veterans.
