Vice President Calls for Russian War Crimes Probe

Tells European leaders, “We should all be watching.”

Vice President Kamala Harris, in Warsaw, Poland, for meetings with European leaders, has called for an international war crimes investigation into Russia over its weeks-long assault on civilians in Ukraine. As she communicates continued U.S. support for NATO’s eastern flank amid the invasion, the vice president said Russian President Vladimir Putin should be held to account for the war.

“Absolutely there should be an investigation, and we should all be watching,” the vice president said Thursday. She expressed outrage over a bombing the day before of a maternity hospital in Mariupol, leaving children and adults buried under rubble, according to Ukrainian authorities. Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister, said the hospital was no longer operational and was being used by Ukrainian forces.

Standing beside Vice President Harris, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that “it is obvious to us that in Ukraine, Russians are committing war crimes.”

The call for an investigation comes as a National Security Council spokesperson said this week that the United States had begun collecting evidence of war crimes and alleged human rights abuses.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the vice president to seek God’s wisdom as she represents the U.S. in talks with European leaders.
  • For officials of the U.S. and NATO as war crime investigations are considered.
  • For the leaders and citizens of Ukraine as they endure the invasion.
