Navy Recovers Stealth Fighter from South China Sea

Aircraft will be taken to nearby U.S. military installation.

The United States Navy recovered an F-35 stealth fighter that had plunged into the South China Sea in late January. The United States worked quickly to recover the military aircraft before China could after a “landing mishap” aboard the USS Carl Vinson left seven military personnel injured.

The plane was recovered from a depth of 12,400 feet using a remotely operated diving vehicle and a crane from a diving support construction vessel known as Picasso.

The Navy will deliver the aircraft to a nearby military installation where an investigation into the mishap is ongoing. It will be evaluated for potential transport to the U.S.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For U.S. Navy leadership as they assess the accident and develop improvements to training and equipment.
  • For active-duty Naval personnel around the world, particularly those deployed to the Indo-Pacific.
