EARN IT Act Approved for Floor by Senate Judiciary Committee

Bill seeks to overcome the liability shield in Communication Decency Act.

The Eliminating Abusive and Rampant Neglect of Interactive Technologies act (EARN IT) was approved for consideration on the floor by the Senate Judiciary Committee earlier this month. The bill is intended to broaden the enforceability of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) laws by overcoming the section 230 loophole of the Communication Decency Act. This would allow the federal government to identify and prosecute those who seek to sexually abuse children.

“The EARN IT Act will stop exploitation before it starts,” co-sponsor Senator Richard Blumenthal stated.

Some technology security advocates have expressed concerns that lessening electronic privacy to federal viewership may not provide enough protection for children and would simply remove more privacy in general.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of the Senate as they consider and vote on the EARN IT Act.
  • For wisdom for federal officials seeking to remove the liability shield from social platforms that host content damaging to children.
  • That Senator Blumenthal would seek the Lord’s guidance as he sponsors and guides bills through the legislative process.
