U.S. Special Forces Kill Top ISIS Leader

Large scale raid occurred in Syria.

Overnight Wednesday, U.S. special forces engaged in a large-scale raid in northwestern Syria, resulting in the death of the top leader of the Islamic State group, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashini al Qurayshi, said to be the successor to al-Baghdadi.

Thursday morning, President Biden commended the “skill and bravery of our Armed Forces” in taking the leader of ISIS off the battlefield. He stated all Americans involved in the operation returned safely.

The operation took roughly two hours, during which special forces arrived in helicopters and engaged with gunmen at a house near the Turkish border. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki stated, “Hajji Abdullah detonated an explosive device shortly after U.S. forces arrived on site, killing himself, a woman, and three children.“

The president said he ordered the raid to “protect the American people and our allies, and make the world a safer place” amid a resurgence of ISIS in the region.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president and his advisors as they take action to address concerns in the Middle East.
  • For American special forces who are trained to remove terrorist threats.
  • For officials in the Pentagon as they assess the information to release to the public.
