Monster Winter Storm Causes 5,000 Flight Cancellations

Multiple governors have declared states of emergency.

A widespread winter storm has forced schools to close and massively disrupted highway and air travel, and it is destined to continue to hit the Central, Eastern, and Southern United States across the next few days. Heavy snow is expected from the southern Rockies to northern New England, while heavy ice accretion is likely from Texas to Pennsylvania.

As heavy snow and freezing rain hits much of the country and as other parts are braced for possibly dangerous ice accumulations, a number of governors have declared states of emergency. Winter storm and ice warnings have been issued for over 90 million people from New Mexico to Canada. A number of public utility services are reporting customers with power outages.

The storm is seen as one of the worst for air travel. Over 5,000 flights scheduled for Thursday in the U.S. were canceled as of Thursday morning.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For state, local, and community leaders as they assess the dangers and issue warnings and states of emergency.
  • For first responders and other workers who will be out in the severe weather.
  • For wisdom and protection for Americans in the affected regions.
