National Guard Called to Help Hospitals with Omicron Surge

President promises support from military health professionals.

The Omicron variant of COVID-19 has continued to surge, causing a strain on hospitals that are short-staffed. But Omicron is overwhelming hospitals in a different way. The strain, which has has milder symptoms, also infects those who have been inoculated against COVID, so there are less emergency care patients but more health care workers getting sick from the variant. Hospital shortages are growing, and the National Guard has been called in to help out in multiple states.

President Joe Biden also pledged federal support for hospitals a week ago, stating, “Our hospitals in some places are going to get overrun, but in terms of equipment — both in terms of equipment and staff. That’s why we stockpiled and prepositioned millions of gowns, gloves, masks, and ventilators. We’re mobilizing an additional 1,000 military doctors and nurses and medics to help staff hospitals.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For God to heal sick healthcare workers around the nation and grant them rest.
  • That the National Guard would be preserved as they help run hospitals across the country.
  • That the president would seek God’s guidance in implementing mitigation measures.
