Department of Justice Challenges Texas Redistricting

The concerns center on the representation of minorities following the 2020 census.

This week, the Department of Justice announced that it had filed a legal challenge of Texas’ latest redistricting map. Following the 2020 Census, Texas was granted two additional congressional seats and therefore needed to redraw its boundaries accordingly. The legal challenge says that the population growth of Texas came largely came from minorities but that the redistricting map isn’t properly representative.

Attorney General Merrick Garland said during a press release, “The department’s career voting law experts have assessed Texas’s new redistricting plans and determined that they include districts that violate the Voting Rights Act.”

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton following the announcement, “I am confident that our legislature’s redistricting decisions will be proven lawful”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That God would lead the Justice Department in any action related to protecting voter rights.
  • For God to guide the courts in determining the legality of Texas’ district map.
  • For God to give Attorney General Garland wisdom on how to assure Justice in the U.S.
