At-Home COVID-19 Tests to Become More Accessible

President’s administration sets aside $70 million for new test development.

On Monday, the White House announced that it would begin a cross-department initiative to make over-the-counter at-home COVID-19 tests more available to Americans. The National Institutes of Health will be committing $70 million of the American Rescue Plan to increase the number of companies producing the tests.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will also work with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ensure the efficacy and safety of the tests. According to HHS, “The goal is to accelerate the availability of more high-quality, accurate and reliable over-the-counter tests to the public as quickly as possible.” HHS will work with the FDA to fast-track companies that “have the potential for manufacturing [COVID-19 tests] at significant scale.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For officials within the president’s administration to have wisdom as they allot funds for coronavirus mitigation.
  • For HHS researchers and scientists as they work with the FDA to develop at home COVID-19 tests.
  • For the president and White House Coronavirus Response Team as efforts to curb the spread of the virus continue.
