Defense Secretary Meets with Black Sea Allies

Secretary Austin signs agreement with the nation of Georgia.

On Monday, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Georgian Minister of Defense Juansher Burchuladze signed a joint agreement that would allow for the U.S. military to train Georgian troops. Located along the Black Sea and sharing a border with Russia, Georgia is a key American ally in the region.

The Defense Department made the announcement at the beginning of Secretary Austin’s trip to the region. He will be meeting with other allies, including Ukraine and Romania. Secretary Austin said, “This is an important region, and its security and stability is crucial to fully realize a vision that we share of a Europe that is whole and free and at peace.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For safety for Secretary Austin as he travels.
  • For wisdom for officials in the Defense Department wisdom on how to strengthen alliances and promote peace.
  • For discernment for the president as commander in chief.
