Interior Department Swears in Assistant Secretary

Bryan Newland begins his position as head of Indian Affairs.

This week, the Department of the Interior officially swore in Bryan Newland as the new Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs. The swearing-in took place at the Bay Mill Indian Community, where Assistant Secretary Newland served as the Tribal President. He also served on the Tribal Court of the community.

Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland said, “Bryan has worked on behalf of Indigenous peoples and Indian Country for decades. His wealth of experience will advance the Department’s commitment to ensuring Tribes have a seat at the table for every decision that impacts them and their communities. From clean energy projects and economic development to addressing past injustices against Tribal communities, Bryan will lead with the knowledge that we best serve Indigenous peoples when Tribal governments are empowered to lead their communities.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president as vacant positions continue to be filled in his administration.
  • For Secretary Haaland to seek God’s wisdom as she leads the Interior Department.
  • For Assistant Secretary Newland to have discernment as he assumes his role.
