Issue 504 – Verse of the Week

August 19th – August 25th, 2021

VERSE OF THE WEEK

He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken. Psalm 62:2

Unshakeable

In May 1960, the strongest earthquake ever recorded hit Chile. The 9.5 magnitude quake created a tsunami, which together killed an estimated 5,700 people. Measures of earthquakes have only been taken since the development of the Richter scale in the 1930s. But certainly, significant quakes have occurred across the eons of time. Matthew 27 records a quake when Jesus was crucified that shook the earth, split rocks in two, and broke tombs open. Unlike hurricanes and tornadoes, earthquakes are hard to predict. The “Big One” destined for California has been overdue for some time, seismologists say. The power of God that is on display when the earth shakes is met head-on by the power of His protective hand over you. Psalm 46 reminds you that though the sea should roar and the mountains tremble, God is your present help. Do not wait for the earth to quake to place your total trust in Him.
