New York Governor Cuomo Resigns

His resignation will be effective in 14 days.

On Tuesday, New York Governor Andrew Como said he will resign effective in two weeks due to a sexual harassment scandal that has crippled his administration. He said he did not want to distract the state from important work to be done.

His announcement came in a live stream from his Manhattan office only minutes after his lawyer again denied claims that he had sexually harassed anyone during his three terms in office. Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul will replace him in the office. She will become the Empire State’s first female governor.

Governor Cuomo stated he was motivated to step down to avoid months of distraction for the state. “Given the circumstances, the best way I can help now is if I step aside and let the government back to governing,” he said.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Governor Cuomo as he completes the next two weeks in his office in Albany.
  • For the women who have come forward with complaints, including some filed criminally, of sexual harassment by the governor.
  • For Lieutenant Governor Hochul as she prepares to assume office.
