President Biden Meets with German Chancellor

Two leaders discuss future of U.S.-German Relations

On Thursday, President Biden hosted German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Washington. The two world leaders reaffirmed the relationship that the United States and Germany share, amid ongoing disagreements about a pipeline under construction from Russia to Germany that the U.S. is concerned will increase German reliance on Russia. The two discussed a wide range of topics during their meeting.

The president said, “The cooperation between the United States and Germany is strong and we hope to continue that, and I’m confident that we will.“ He also said that Chancellor Merkel is “a great friend, a personal friend, and a friend of the United States.” She has announced that she will be stepping down from her position in September after serving in her role since 2005.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president to seek God’s wisdom as he builds the relationship with Germany.
  • That the U.S. and Germany would find common ground on areas of disagreement.
  • For the Lord to guide the State Department on the best way to form relationships with foreign nations.
