Afghanistan Security Deteriorating, Says Pentagon

Pentagon press secretary John Kirby gives interview

This past week, a Taliban negotiator claimed, at a news conference in Moscow, that the group now controls 85% of Afghanistan. On Friday, the Pentagon’s top spokesperson could not validate those claims but did inform the press that the Taliban is indeed making a few territorial gains within the country.

“What we have seen is a deteriorating security situation on the ground, no question about that, that the Taliban continues to take district centers,” Pentagon press secretary John Kirby reported on Friday morning. “We are seeing them continue to advance on district centers around the country, and it is concerning.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • That U.S. military leaders and their allies would have wisdom concerning the Taliban.
  • For the Pentagon as they deliberate how best to manage this developing situation.
  • For protection for U.S. troops as they defend against Taliban forces during the withdrawal.
  • For Afghan military and security forces as the Taliban attempts to gain power.
