Interior Secretary Discusses Offshore Wind in Virginia

The proposed plan could generate 3,000 megawatts of power.

Last week, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland met with Virginia Governor Ralph Northan and Senator Tim Kaine to explore the possibility of offshore wind production off the coast of the state. President Biden’s administration has set a goal of developing 30 gigawatts of offshore wind power by 2030. The proposed project in Virginia is expected to generate 3,000 megawatts of power.

Secretary Haaland said of the meeting, “The demand for offshore wind energy has never been greater. Recent technological advances, falling costs, and tremendous economic potential make offshore wind a promising avenue for diversifying our national energy portfolio, creating good-paying union jobs, and tackling climate change. Today’s tour and meetings were a great chance to learn about the Commonwealth’s continued leadership role in developing the offshore wind industry and attracting and supporting the domestic supply chain.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For officials in the Interior Department as they pursue alternate energy solutions.
  • That Secretary Haaland would seek God’s direction as she heads the Department effectively.
  • That God would lead the president’s administration to be good stewards of the environment.
