U.S. Transfers Bagram Airfield to Afghan Military

Withdraw from major strategic holding after 20 years.

The U.S. military marked a major step in its mission to withdraw from Afghanistan when it transferred control of the largest airfield in the country to the Afghan National Security and Defense Force on Friday. The United States took control of Bagram Airfield twenty years ago when it began its invasion of Afghanistan following the terror attack on the World Trade Center in 2001.

Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said of the transfer, “A safe, orderly drawdown enables us to maintain an ongoing diplomatic presence, support the Afghan people and the government, and prevent Afghanistan from once again becoming a safe haven for terrorists that threatens our homeland.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the Lord to keep service members safe as they withdraw from Afghanistan.
  • For leaders at the Pentagon and military commanders as the troop withdrawal continues.
  • That the president and his military advisors would seek God’s wisdom in their decision-making.
