Upcoming Vaccine Surplus Concerns Hospitals

J&J doses to expire in six weeks.

President Biden was hoping for 70% of American citizens to be vaccinated by July 4, but vaccination rates have stagnated at 64% and are not expected to rise. Some are reluctant to get the vaccine, and the Johnson & Johnson vaccine specifically had its reputation hampered by questions about blood clots in its rollout.

Dr. Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo, chair of epidemiology and biostatistics at the University of California, voiced the concerns of doctors around the country as millions of Johnsons and Johnson vaccines expire this month. “We really cannot let doses expire,” she said, ”given the need to get vaccines to some under-vaccinated communities in the U.S. and the glaring gap in vaccinations and the inequity of vaccinations that we have globally.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for doctors around the country as they seek to save lives and prevent illness.
  • That the doses would find their way to those who need them.
  • For discernment for the president’s administration during the waning pandemic.
