God’s Loving Promises

No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall confute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. – Isaiah 54:17

The chapter of Isaiah 54, where today’s verse is found, shows the great love God has for His people. Israel’s sin brought His punishment but, to the Lord, that was a brief moment. His heart’s desire is for His people to live peaceful, prosperous lives. Though He may discipline them for a season, tests and trials aren’t the end result. Psalms 34:19 says, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.”

In Isaiah 54, God lays out His plan for His people. In verses 1-4, He promises release from shame and disgrace and to expand their families and territory. In verses 5-6, He, the Almighty Creator, promises to be a husband to His people, to love and take care of them—meeting emotional needs as well as physical ones. In verses 7-8, He extends mercies and kindness to His undeserving people. In verses 9-10, He promises that His anger will depart and His kindness toward them will be everlasting. The remaining verses, 11-17, hold the promise that He will teach their children and bring them prosperity, protection, and peace.

This is what God desires for you. All these promises are realized in Jesus (Romans 4:16). Pray for the eyes of the leaders and citizens of this nation to be opened to God’s goodness. His love is freely available to the repentant who put their faith in Christ’s redemption. Pray that the nation will experience a great return to the Lord.

Today’s Verse: Isaiah 54:17

no weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed,
and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord
and their vindication from me, declares the Lord.”

13 For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith. 14 For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. 15 For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression.
16 That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, 17 as it is written, “I have made you the father of many nations”—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist. 18 In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.” 19 He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. 20 No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, 21 fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. 22 That is why his faith was “counted to him as righteousness.” 23 But the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone, 24 but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, 25 who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.
