The God of History

Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of property and security. – Jeremiah 33:6

People who believe in God may wonder at times if the Creator of the entire universe really cares what is going on in the world. He lives in Heaven, which can seem so far away to the human mind. Even though Jesus lived on Earth as a man, does He grasp how difficult things are now? He’s in the greatest place that exists – is He still interested in what happens here?

The people of Israel probably had similar questions during their time of exile from their homeland. After all, they lost everything that was dear to them and were forced to leave their homes to go to a foreign land. They were captives, dealing with the consequences of their choice to disobey God. Could God actually have a desire to care for them after they failed to follow His commands? In the prophet Jeremiah’s address to the people, he explained the reasons Israel was in the predicament it found itself in. But Jeremiah also offered them hope. God spoke to reassure His people and promised that one day they would experience healing and return to their land.

The book of Jeremiah shows that the Lord is a God of history. He cares about everything that happens and uses everything to further His plan for the world. This is just as true today as it was for the nation of Israel thousands of years ago. And just as Israel could look forward to healing, so can believers in America today. Ask God to enable you to patiently wait for His restoration in your life. Pray that He continues to bring needed healing and health back to the world.

Today’s Verse: Jeremiah 33:6

Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security.

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son.
