Little Questions

Every word of God proves true. – Proverbs 30:5

“Oh yeah? Can you prove it?” That little phrase has led to everything from small family arguments to nations at war. However, it is a reasonable question, especially in relation to your faith. How do you know the Gospel message as presented in the Bible is true?

It has been said, “the main things are the plain things.” And God takes that exact approach in giving you assurance. “For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made” (Romans 1:20). As you stand witness to the universe around you, let the display of His divine glory create confidence in your heart and mind.

God reveals Himself specifically through the God-Man, Jesus Christ. “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14). Ultimately God’s own Spirit will open your spiritual eyes, removing the blindness of this world and illuminating “the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ who is the image of God” (2 Corinthians 4:4).

Do not be discouraged that some are slow to believe, even those closest to Jesus on Earth asked that same little question. His disciple Phillip said, “Lord, show us the Father” and Jesus replied, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:8). God’s own character is enough to establish His word and draw sincerely seeking souls unto Himself. Pray the Holy Spirit will soften the hearts of many serving in American government, preparing them to accept the truth of the Gospel.

Today’s Verse: Proverbs 30:5

Every word of God proves true;
    he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel
    and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts:
“I am the first and I am the last;
    besides me there is no god.
Who is like me? Let him proclaim it.
    Let him declare and set it before me,
since I appointed an ancient people.
    Let them declare what is to come, and what will happen.
Fear not, nor be afraid;
    have I not told you from of old and declared it?
    And you are my witnesses!
Is there a God besides me?
    There is no Rock; I know not any.”

All who fashion idols are nothing, and the things they delight in do not profit. Their witnesses neither see nor know, that they may be put to shame. 10 Who fashions a god or casts an idol that is profitable for nothing?
